There has always been talk of Xbox releasing a handheld games console but earlier this month new Microsoft head Phil Spencer rejected these claims. There are various reasons why Xbox have never gone into the market of handheld gaming, but one of the main reasons is likely to be mobile phones.
Games are constantly improving on mobiles but he has said there may be handheld controller support on mobile phones one day. There may not be a great deal of money to be made on handheld consoles and the Playstation Vita has not exactly lived up to expectations as yet.
Some graphics are considerably better on mobiles (on some games) and it’s difficult for some gamers to see the point, when they’re more than happy to wait and play games at home, whilst playing the odd few on their phones when they’re on the move. So maybe there will never be an Xbox handheld console, however, Microsoft would certainly want to keep the lid on a project if it was real so it’s not something that can be completely ruled out.
