Is VR gaming over-hyped?

Posted on May 23, 2018 at 8:56 pm

VR gaming was all the rage over the last year or so, and for good reason. The technology has come a long way and it generated a real buzz, and still is to some degree, however, people haven’t exactly fully jumped on VR games just yet, and the typical games console is still hugely popular, so it hasn’t reinvented gaming or revolutionised it in any way just yet. Some say “VR continues to be an unwieldy solution in search of a problem, and shows no signs of ever becoming a mainstream technology.”

It hasn’t quite captured the imagination of gamers just yet, and that’s not to say that it will not some day, but for the next few years, the bigger improvement in gaming are going to be related to processing power, 4K and visuals. How do you feel about VR gaming? We’d love it if you sent us a message to tell us your thoughts.

Should you allow your child to play video games in the school holidays?

Posted on March 31, 2018 at 3:41 pm

With the Easter holidays coming up, many children look forward to having days away from the classroom, but video games shouldn’t be their number one priority. Don’t get us wrong, we absolutely love video games, but at a young age it’s so important to maintain healthy relationships with friends, and going outdoors, playing football and climbing trees is what it’s all about. That’s not to say that there is no time at all for playing video games in the school holidays, afterall they’re enjoyable. That said, several friends can play games together, enjoying memories so a few hours here or there isn’t a problem. But just because you can access games and play your friends online, doesn’t mean you should. Why not have your child spend time with their friends at your home or their friend’s home, so they’re still engaging without being too absorbed in a make believe world.

Golf Story – Why it’s very N64

Posted on October 4, 2017 at 3:24 am

If you’ve played Golf Story, then you’ll probably know that it’s very clearly inspired by Mario Golf on the Game Boy Color, which shares similarities with the original N64 game. It’s a really nice throwback to vintage gaming, but it’s actually incredibly weird and we’ll explain why. Firstly, the biggest trait of this game is its canny sense of humour. There’s not much of an actual plot, beyond wanting to be a professional golfer, but getting there involves a lot more than just playing golf for a very long time. So you find yourself starting conversations with cavemen and peculiar characters, so this really isn’t a golfing game in that sense. It’s designed to be fun, weird and quirky and that’s exactly what you get. If you’re looking for a friendly game that will keep you entertained and amused, you may want to try Golf Story, it really is a barrel of laughs.

Monster Hunter: World

Posted on September 23, 2017 at 1:53 pm

Monster Hunter: World is the is the fifth primary title in the Monster Hunter franchise by Capcom, and it’s set to be released towards the end of January next year. The new title is said to be more complex than ever before with a new engine, more characters and faster gameplay, so we’re expecting big things. As was the case with the other titles, as the player you take on the role of a hunter that seeks and slays ferocious beasts in heart-pounding battles that unfold across the vast ever-changing landscape. It’s therefore up to you to utilise the surrounding environment and wildlife to your advantage, finding clever ways to take down and capture monsters. This game is not for the faint-hearted, and it opens with heavy action from the very start, so be prepared! The visuals are absolutely superb too, so the beasts look even more lifelike.

Red Dead Redemption 2: What’s the latest?

Posted on August 24, 2017 at 2:14 pm

Talk about Red Dead Redemption has cooled in recent months, and many gamers are concerned by the lack of noise surrounding this highly anticipated game. So what’s the deal?

Well, Rockstar Games has confirmed the game will now arrive in Spring 2018, which is much later than originally anticipated, and though this has annoyed some people, there’s no doubt the excitement and hype around this big title will begin early next year. As frequent gamers ourselves, we’re always looking at the games set to be released over the next month or so, and with Red Dead Redemption 2 still a long way off, there’s not much to talk about right now. When we know more about the plot, the characters, the gameplay changes and visuals, you’ll be the first to know. There is also likely to be big voice actors and there will be lots to discuss early next year, but for now, we all just need to bide our time and wait patiently.

Prey-PS4; Gaming review

Posted on July 17, 2017 at 1:19 pm

Prey for Ps4 is the perfect marriage between science fiction and art. The gaming is set in a space station called Talos that is revolving the moon in 2032. The prelude to the game explains how a human experiment goes wrong and now you are stuck there. Aliens overrun the station and to survival, you have to either run away or kill them. Sincerely, it is an interesting game picking its motivation from all the important places.

Prey is both fresh and emotionally involving. Exploring the gaming environment feels great and is completely immersing. A danger is always hanging in the air. To deal with the danger, you have two approaches the combat way or the stealth method depending on your gaming style. Personally, I prefer a blend of both.

The story mode before the gameplay gets you in the zone. Interesting characters that keep the game moving, later on, are introduced. This creates a rapport between them and you from the word go. Additionally, the twists in the storyline are totally unexpected they leave you questioning everything.

PES 2018: What to expect?

Posted on June 12, 2017 at 5:55 am

It’s always tricky to write about football games like FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer but we’re going to try and give you an insight into the latter here. Pro Evo has always just had minor improvements with every release, so it can be tricky to get excited about it, but that’s only until you play the game!

All of these minor improvements work together to give the game a completely new feel this time, whether that be more realistic tackles, more control over runs and passes or improvements with regards to the realistic features of players. In 2018, the gameplay is more real. It’s not quite as fast, whilst the goalkeepers are more varied in their actions. As always, it’s more difficult to work clear shots on goal, however, that’s really part of the fun. You have to spend some time learning this new engine before you can call yourself a Pro, but on the whole this game is a big improvement on the last.

Dragon Quest Heroes II – Our thoughts on this action adventure

Posted on May 27, 2017 at 1:07 pm

Dragon Quest Heroes II is everything you expect it to be if you played the first game. It’s fast paced with bold visuals and tough characters. That said, not everything in this game is similar to the last release , and one of the major changes is the type of adventure. This time you’re trying to restore peace in a very chaotic world, with monsters coming at you left, right and centre! What’s great about this game is that you can have up to 4 players in a team, working together to defeat those scary monsters. With many lovable characters too, and plenty of enemies, this game has it all, whilst there are some new faces in the mix this time round too. Though Dragon Quest Heroes is never going to be a game that challenges at the top of the gaming charts, it’s still lovable for people of all ages, from children to young teens and adults.

The Deer God – Oddly addictive

Posted on April 29, 2017 at 12:09 pm

Humans have always had a special liking to hunting, with the deer being one of the most harassed animals over the years. So you can imagine how horrible it would be, to be the deer being hunted! The Deer God for PS Vita is a game that lets you experience just that. The setting is that you are a hunter in pursuit of deer, when the Deer God transforms you into a deer and the tables are turned.

So you start off as a fawn in the 3D world and grow up as a deer. In this unusual thriller, you’re taken to an entirely different world. One that is randomly generated having all life forms including the bear, tiger, rabbits and caterpillars. You have to survive the nature, the dangers of the night and the adventures of the day. You even have to survive a hunter. Being a survival game, there is no set goal or an end to the game. However, there are environmental puzzles and tasks and it will be enough to keep coming back for more.

Deer God that’s a good game!
