Why do games come out on a Tuesday?

Posted on August 19, 2021 at 1:52 pm

Have you ever noticed that game released normally happen on a Tuesday?  Ever wondered why?  It all started back in the 90s when Sega and Nintendo were the two competing games companies.  Sega released Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991 and it was an instant hit.  When the sequel to Sonic was planned to include the introduction of Sonic’s friend Tails,  Sega knew that it had to do something big.

Sega made this event a two-pronged attack on Nintendo.  Firstly they would release the game globally on the same day by delivering the game into Japan, the UK and the USA the day before its release.

The second part of this huge event was to release the game on a Tuesday and name it Sonic 2sday.

The game was released on 24 November 1992 and since then it has become the industry standard to release games on a Tuesday.

Bethink and NewFissy are best known as developers at DreamCraft who created the hugely popular Roblox game Adopt Me.  The game has attracted billions of visits, making it a favourite on the Roblox platform. However, changes are happening for these two developers. In May 2021, BeThink and NewFissy will be officially opening their studio called Uplift Games.

A New Twist to Rogue Style Gaming: Returnal

Posted on April 30, 2021 at 10:43 am

If you have heard about this dark, rouge-like style game Returnal, you may be wondering what’s being said and if you should give it a go. Returnal is a third-person shooter game, from Sony for Playstation 5, based in a hostile alien planet where you have to fight to survive. In these long epic battles, you can switch instinctively between firing modes using a single adaptive trigger and can quickly get straight back into the fight upon death.

One of the most incredible aspects is the immersive 3D audio, that is best realised with headphones, that adds to the intense realism of the alien world around you. Each level brings a new unpredictable challenge, a fresh environment, seamless loading times and excellent storytelling.

If you have been debating on if Returnal is worth the hype, then you may now know if this action-thriller is your kind of game and something worth investing in.

What are People Saying About Call of Duty: Warzone?

Posted on April 20, 2021 at 12:36 pm

Since the release of Call of Duty: Warzone, there has been a lot of talk and comparison between other Battle Royale games. It has been given many mixed reviews, with it being highly rated for the most part, but many feel it could be a bit better. Some of the best features of this game are the tight and responsive weapon play, an interesting and expansive map and tense Gulag encounters. The game also has a unique twist with the introduction of Contracts.

Many believe the COD franchise have up’ed the stakes in battle royale style play, against 150 other players and improved upon this it’s design, compared to Blackout. Some feel the game will be better at giving Fortnite a run for its money, but only time will tell.

Overall, the game seems to be quite popular with some still feeling it could use some improvement. It does offer new and creative gameplay but is seemingly a bit risk adverse.

Why you should buy Cyberpunk 2077

Posted on April 8, 2020 at 8:56 pm

Cyberpunk 2077 may not be top of your list when it comes to games, however, it is well worth buying just for the storyline. Let us explain…

It was by far the greatest game shown at E3 2018, and it also triumphed with younger audiences at E3 2019 as well as Gamescom events. The main selling point is probably that it has Keanu Reeves involved in the mix, but there’s so much more pleasure and fun as you get deeper into the storyline. The open-world scenery is quite simply beautiful, with no super long loading times while you get very seamless transitions as you explore this very modern, futuristic city. We can’t wait to get our hands on this one and we hope you feel the same. The characters are also very evolved, right from the start, and you feel a close connection to the key players, which isn’t always the case with futuristic games.

Is VR gaming over-hyped?

Posted on May 23, 2018 at 8:56 pm

VR gaming was all the rage over the last year or so, and for good reason. The technology has come a long way and it generated a real buzz, and still is to some degree, however, people haven’t exactly fully jumped on VR games just yet, and the typical games console is still hugely popular, so it hasn’t reinvented gaming or revolutionised it in any way just yet. Some say “VR continues to be an unwieldy solution in search of a problem, and shows no signs of ever becoming a mainstream technology.”

It hasn’t quite captured the imagination of gamers just yet, and that’s not to say that it will not some day, but for the next few years, the bigger improvement in gaming are going to be related to processing power, 4K and visuals. How do you feel about VR gaming? We’d love it if you sent us a message to tell us your thoughts.

Should you allow your child to play video games in the school holidays?

Posted on March 31, 2018 at 3:41 pm

With the Easter holidays coming up, many children look forward to having days away from the classroom, but video games shouldn’t be their number one priority. Don’t get us wrong, we absolutely love video games, but at a young age it’s so important to maintain healthy relationships with friends, and going outdoors, playing football and climbing trees is what it’s all about. That’s not to say that there is no time at all for playing video games in the school holidays, afterall they’re enjoyable. That said, several friends can play games together, enjoying memories so a few hours here or there isn’t a problem. But just because you can access games and play your friends online, doesn’t mean you should. Why not have your child spend time with their friends at your home or their friend’s home, so they’re still engaging without being too absorbed in a make believe world.
