GTA V Review

Posted on December 22, 2014 at 4:44 pm

GTA V is a game that a lot of people will be familiar with, as it has been released on the previous console generation for some time now. More recently, we’ve seen it remade for the new generation, the PS4 and Xbox 1.

GTA V has been digitally remastered to fully take advantage of the PS4’s and Xbox 1’s increase in graphic card power, but it has been updated in many other ways as well, some of them causing dramatic changes in gameplay.

An integrated FPS system is perhaps the biggest change; giving people the option to switch between the traditional GTA view and a more traditional FPS view. It changes the mode in which the game is played in interesting ways.

The experience of people who’ve played both versions indicates that the style introduced in the new version is a massive improvement and a great change to the franchise.

Halo 5

Posted on November 20, 2014 at 11:26 am

There is set to be a new game released for the Halo franchise, with Halo 5: Guardians. While the previous games were supposed to be a Trilogy, the producers of the game decided that they didn’t want to limit the story to just three instalments, and so here we are, with another one being made.

This game will mostly likely open up the world of Halo a bit, to ensure that the story doesn’t become stale. An announcement that they will be broadcasting a Halo TV series, which will be running in conjunction with the release of Halo 5 in 2015, which could be another sign that they are trying to broaden the game’s horizons.

At the time of the first Halo’s release, there wasn’t that many high quality FPS games around, so the way they made the game was truly ground-breaking. Over time, this has not remained the case, but thanks to the dedicated fan-base they attracted early on, this new game will likely retain a lot of the success of the franchise.

Why Games Make for the Perfect Christmas Gift

Posted on October 23, 2014 at 7:55 pm

Games do make for the perfect Christmas present, but why? Well, December and January are dark, cold moths and there actually is not an awful lot to do, making it the perfect time to spend your hours playing some of the latest games.

If you’re not sure what to get your son, brother or dad, then an action game could be perfect, yet there are family games that can be played too, perhaps on the Nintendo Wii U or Xbox Kinect. There are games for ever type of individual, and you get hours of fun out of a game, whilst a DVD will only give you a couple of hours worth of entertainment.

Games today may not be cheap but you get plenty of playing time and that’s exactly what people need during the bleak months of December, January and February.

Sid Meyer’s Civilisation: Beyond Earth

Posted on August 31, 2014 at 10:54 pm

This turn based strategy game is often considered as some sort of unofficial sequel to the game Alpha Centauri. Alpha centauri was a game similar to Sid Meyer’s Civilisation titles apart from the fact that you start the game from the futuristic time zone and have to expand onto other planets. Bringing in several developers from the hugely loved but relatively unknown Alpha Centauri, Beyond Earth could pan out to be all that we have hoped for out of the series. Jam-packed with updated graphics and gaming mechanics this looks to be one of the titles that cannot be missed. Following the traditional hexagonal turn-based strategy style the game takes place 300 years after “The Great Mistake” and governments of the world must expand into space to start a new life. The game is set to be released in 2014 and can be easily pre-ordered from places such as Amazon or even on Steam if you are “past” needing a hard copy of the game.

Alien: Isolation – the wait is over

Posted on July 20, 2014 at 7:19 pm

Set in the year 2137 (15 years after the events of Alien) the game follows Ellen Ripley’s daughter Amanda as she investigates her mother’s disappearance. Despite it being classed as a first-person shooter, this is no action shooter but is instead a survival horror game. Based more closely on Ridley Scott’s original Alien film it features only one Alien throughout that cannot be killed and requires stealth and skill to survive. To make this as scary as possible, the Alien has no predetermined path and is actually artificial intelligence programmed to actively seek out the player by smell, sound and sights. It has a challenging set of behaviours designed to unlock as it encounters the player creating the illusion that it is learning and adjusting. This includes being about to investigate other sources, like if a door has been left open that was previously closed… So there are no cheats as such with this game, as it will constantly adapt, if that’s not scary, we don’t know what is!

Enjoyed COD but want a change? Titanfall could be just right for you!

Posted on July 14, 2014 at 1:33 pm

Created by Respawn Entertainment and some key members of the Call of Duty franchise, gamers will be able to see and feel the resemblance of Call of Duty. Some gamers might be sceptical at this point but the only way to prove them wrong is for them to keep playing the game.

With advances in the agility and combat techniques of the Elite Assault Pilots who have the ability to run along or up walls you can start to have more fun with your character.

The option to hop on into a Titan is a massive bonus, it creates a new playing platform which makes the online gaming even more of a challenge. This robotic extension of your Pilot certainly has some advantages. Whilst you’re in the bot your own life bar will be protected, if you are being attacked it is the bots life bar that will drop – you just need to make sure you make your exit before you get blown up!! However, with superior fire power and the ability to deflect attacks, it certainly has an advantage against the standard Pilot, this bot will surely help you gain a few more kills.

Evolve: A New and Inventive Multiplayer Game

Posted on June 29, 2014 at 12:49 pm

From the same creators that brought us the amazing co-op game; left for dead, we are going to be introduced to the game Evolve. This game is another multi-player based game, but with a unique spin on the concept. Unlike a typical multi-player game which is either PvP or Team V Team, this one is set to be a four vs one multi-player game, where the single player plays as a hunter (monster), with amazing capabilities, and the four plays as a crack team of humans with incredibly powerful weapons. The single player is so overpowered that the four players have no choice but to work well as a team, take advantage of the terrain, and advantage of other NPC lifeforms on the field of battle in order to win. As a hunter, every time you win a match you can upgrade your monster to improve its capabilities and gain a better position on the leader board.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Posted on June 12, 2014 at 12:31 pm

Call of Duty is set to release another member of the games franchise towards the end of the year, with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. This game, unlike the previous ones which were set in the past or present, this one will be set in the future, where the private military corporations is the predominate military force used by the majority of the world for their security needs, and you play a member of the Atlas corporation (voice of Kevin Spacey).

As a game, it offers a futuristic look at warfare, which has been carefully constructed to represent real-world technology that is in development, or expected to be possible in the near future, for example, you’ll have access to an exoskeleton which will boost your strength and speed considerably, and also increase jumping power and even invisibility cloaking. All of these technological advancements are sure to cause drastic changes in the game, so you certainly won’t just be buying another Call of Duty game when you buy Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
